About the Library
Information that empowers.
The Library serves the information needs of the Central University community, in support of teaching, learning and research.
Why the Library exists
The Central University Library was set up to provide for the informational and research needs of the University community. The mission of a library is to package knowledge so that it can be easily reached in support of teaching, learning and research. In line with the University's vision to raise transformational leaders, the Library provides accurate, current, relevant and timely information to empower its users.
To strive for excellence in the provision of quality, relevant, current and timely information to raise transformational leaders.
Collections and systems
A higher share of the Library's collection is funded from the University's budget. The Library also receives donations from donors in Ghana and abroad. Through the University's membership of the Consortium for Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH), it offers e-journals and ProQuest e-books. Its catalogue is automated, on the Koha library management system.
Central University has nine libraries with a hybrid collection that covers every programme run on the campuses.
The team
The Library's staff strength is 24: nine professionals, thirteen para-professionals and two others.
Reporting line
The Library Director reports to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, in consultation with whom the Library's operating hours are reviewed.
